PUBLIC K-12 SCHOOLS

Washoe (www.washoe.k12.nv.us), Douglas, Lyon and Carson City Counties have excellent public school systems. These systems include several charter schools such as the nationally acclaimed Davidson Academy, which serves profoundly gifted students. Students are prepared to be successful in college, the world of work and to be contributing, active members of their communities.

The region’s many private schools offer parents and students a variety of excellent sectarian and non-sectarian pre-school, elementary, middle school and high school options.

PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER LEARNING

The University of Nevada, Reno (www.unr.eduserves over 17,000 students. The University is classified as a Comprehensive Doctoral institution, offers more than 140 degree programs and, with annual research awards totaling $66 million (FY10), represents half of all research awarded to Nevada System of Higher Education institutions.. The Nevada Small Business Development Center (www.nsbdc.org) is a statewide business assistance outreach program of the University of Nevada, Reno. Free and low cost information, assistance, counseling and training are provided for Nevada businesses.

The Desert Research Institute (DRI) (www.dri.edu) is the environmental research arm of the Nevada System of Higher Education, conducting cutting-edge applied research in air, land and life, and water quality across Nevada, the United States and on every continent. With more than 500 employees and two main campuses in Reno and Las Vegas, DRI generates $50 million in total annual revenue.

Truckee Meadows Community College (www.tmcc.eduis a comprehensive community college located in Reno, Nevada, and is part of the Nevada System of Higher Education. With five college sites and more than 20 community locations, TMCC serves over 20,000 students each year in state-supported programs and another 12,000 students in non-credit workforce development classes 

Western Nevada College (www.wnc.edu) Western  Nevada College serves some 6,000 Nevadans every semester with a diverse curriculum tailored to meet individual educational goals. Dozens of degree, certificate and career-building programs, workforce development and small class sizes help ensure a successful college experience.

PRIVATE INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER LEARNING
Sierra Nevada College (www.sierranevada.edu) offers classes leading to Bachelor of Arts, Science, Fine Arts and Business Administration degrees. There is also a teacher education program leading to a master of arts degree as well as to initial teacher licensure in Nevada.
 
Morrison University (www.anthem.edu/morrison) is an accredited private college offering career-focused programs including associate and bachelor of science degrees in computer science, accounting technology and management. An MBA is also offered.
 
University of Phoenix (www.phoenix.edu) in Reno offers bachelor of science degrees in criminal justice, management as well as MBA degrees, with various concentrations including heath care management.
 
Career College of Northern Nevada (www.ccnn.edu) offers career technical training programs as well as Associate degrees in Medical Assistant, Paralegal and Electronic Engineering and Computer Technology. There are also short diploma programs in Medical Assisting and Electronics Repair Technician.
