The nine company winners were determined solely on overall scores from employee satisfaction surveys. The anonymous employee surveys focused on ten criteria of a satisfying work environment including: team effectiveness, trust with coworkers, manager effectiveness, feeling valued and people practices, among others. Quantum Workplace, a contracted specialist in measuring workplace satisfaction, administered the “Best Places to Work” awards program through the use of its proprietary survey methodology and software.
“What makes the ‘Best Places to Work’ awards unique is that winners are determined strictly based on the collective feedback of employees, not the subjective opinion of a group of experts,” said Greg Harris, president, Quantum Workplace. “The winners and finalists of the ‘Greater Reno-Tahoe Best Places to Work’ awards have a competitive advantage in recruiting based on the endorsement of their employees. It’s one of the only national competitions that are judged exclusively upon quantitative measurement of employee input,” said Harris.
Nearly 120 companies were nominated for the second annual “Best Places to Work” awards. The nomination process was open to all companies in the Greater Reno-Tahoe region with 15 or more full-time employees. Nominated companies were sent confidential online surveys to be completed by employees and returned on deadline with a certain percentage of employee participation required based on company size. A diverse group of 57 employers were determined finalists based on the employee surveys.
