Business Retention | Expansion | Workforce Development
The Business Retention, Expansion and Workforce team made 16 visits to companies in April
and assisted 9 of those companies, as well as providing 19 business to business connections in the community. Those companies reported the addition of 18 jobs in the last 12 months and 21 planned for the future.
The BREW team and NVIE hosted the Northern Nevada Food Forum, an industry group dedicated to supporting the burgeoning food, beverage and nutraceutical industries in the region.
The Forum included local manufacturers and regional State and County regulators. If you or your company are interested in participating in upcoming Food Forum meetings, please contact Cynthia Egan at 775-829-3712.
BREW works with the Regional Transportation Commission RTC and NDOT (Nevada Department of Transportation) on an ongoing basis to help identify transportation issues and opportunities.
Don’t forget that RTC offers a variety of shared ride options, and My Ride To Work offers private transportation services for employees.
When building connections with education, we encourage companies to expand their radius of relationships.
Sierra College has a presence in Rocklin, Roseville and Truckee, and is another option for employers seeking graduates with certificates or Associate’s Degrees. The college offers approximately 125 degree and certificate programs, many of which align with the needs of Northern Nevada employers. Go here for their catalog and consider posting open positions on their site. When connecting with high schools, don’t forget that some of their graduates may be interested in doing an internship with your company or coming to work for you!

Make sure graduates know there are a variety of jobs available locally in all types of industries, at all levels and pay scales. Talk up the region with your friends and relatives outside the area, highlighting our great community with a wonderful lifestyle and a broad choice of careers! Share the VisitRenoTahoe.com and WhyReno.org websites with people interested in the area. Make sure the job seekers you know are taking advantage of EmployNV.gov! Lastly, hire an intern or join an apprenticeship program, and participate in regional career events!
