EDAWN’s, Nancy McCormick, VP of Retention, Expansion and Workforce Development was recently honored by the Public Relations Society of America-Sierra Nevada Chapter for her work with existing businesses in Northern Nevada. She received the Gold Spike Community Excellence Award for her work with employers, community partners, and education providers in the region.
AT&T gigabit fiber internet finally available in Reno – The real benefit of fiber optics is that it allows more simultaneous use, alleviating slowdowns caused by high traffic times or multiple devices in a house or neighborhood. Studies show that up to 50 internet-connected devices or appliances will all compete for internet bandwidth within a single home, necessitating a larger tunnel for data. Fiber will provide that tunnel. The Reno area is one of 44 metros nationwide where our ultra-fast internet service is currently available through AT&T. Pathways to Aviation has launched a new Careers Program which is free of charge for both mentors and students, however, both must register to participate. The program is open to high school students with an interest in an aviation career, and students will be given career planning resources, meet potential future employers, and receive mentoring guidance. The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) recently announced enhancements to Money Smart for Small Business, a resource that provides practical guidance for starting and managing a small business. Money Smart for Small Business, a free curriculum available on the SBA website, was jointly developed by the SBA and FDIC and the curriculum is available for download at no cost in both English and Spanish.
