RENO, Nev. (April 23, 2015) – Cascade Designs, a leader in outdoor adventure gear, today announced the opening of a new manufacturing and distribution facility in Reno, bringing up to 100 new jobs. This announcement was made at the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN) Board of Trustees and Major Investor Luncheon held at the Atlantis Casino, Resort, and Spa.

Cascade Designs, a privately-held, family owned company for more than forty years began with the simple idea of providing a more comfortable night outdoors. A single patent that developed into the Therm-a-Rest® brand of outdoor sleeping pads has since created a worldwide standard for outdoor sleeping comfort. The company has grown to include some of the most respected brands in outdoor gear including MSR®, SealLine, Platypus™, E Case, PackTowel and Hummingbird and Tracks.

The majority of Cascade’s products are built at its own facilities in the U.S. and Ireland which allows them to maintain strict control over quality and availability. Through its dedication to innovation and quality products, the company continues to tout the restorative powers of the outdoors through the lasting value of its products making the experience even better.

John Burroughs, Chairman and founder of Cascade Designs spoke to more than fifty guests at the EDAWN Luncheon today and shared his company’s vision for the future and growth in Northern Nevada. “Reno was selected as the best site for expanding our operations where availability of large buildings, labor, housing, and outdoor recreation access were key factors in our decision to relocate. We also looked at Washington and Utah but Nevada came out on top,” said Burroughs.

Cascade Designs is located in the Sage Point Business Park, 10990 Lear Blvd, Suite #100, Reno, NV and is expected to commence phased-in operations starting August 2015.  Manufacturing positions will be posted next month. Applicants should contact the Nevada Job Connect office, (Gwen Richie, g-richie@nvdetr.org, 775-834-1970) for more information.

“The manufacturing sector has become a key component to our city’s revitalization, as these prominent distribution centers continue to go up in north Reno,” said Paul McKenzie, Reno City Council Member and representative of Ward 4, where the new facility will be located. “As someone who enjoys the outdoors myself, it’s great to see an innovative company such as Cascade Designs join the ranks as one of the leaders of Reno’s manufacturing movement.”

“What a perfect fit for Northern Nevada,” said Mike Kazmierski, CEO of EDAWN.  “Cascade Designs, a leader in outdoor adventure gear, will manufacture and distribute their products in a region that is known for incredible outdoor recreational opportunities.”  “In fact, Cascade Designs likely makes gear for most of the “1,000 reasons” touted by the Convention and Visitor Authorities’ tag line, “All Seasons, 1,000 reasons,” he said.

Several business partners that worked closely with the company and provided valuable assistance were CBRE-Gordon Zak, ITS Logistics-Mike Crawford, Nevada Industry for Excellence-Rhea Gustafson, Nevada Job Connect-Mark Henderson, NV Energy-Brad Woodring, and On-TRAC-Chris Reed.
