November was a busy month for the BREWD team.

The team assisted with an expansion for a local business that will be adding 15 new jobs in the next two years and will be investing over $20M in new equipment. They also met with six additional companies providing assistance and connections.

On the workforce front, SVP Nancy McCormick spoke to a group of Veterans at the University of Nevada

veterans Alumni Chapter Engage Networking Breakfast. She spoke about career opportunities in the region, and encouraged Veterans to connect with resources and employers. Here’s a link with some reminders as to why Veterans make great employees!
 

There is a Latin American Chamber of Commerce in the area whose focus is to represent and guide the Latino business community.

Looking for creative ways to find employees? Encourage your existing employees via employee referral bonuses,

and ask them to spread the news about open positions through their own social media channels, amplifying your reach. Another tip is to update the career section on your web site in order to stand out and attract workers, via re-energized marketing targeted at the demographic you are trying to reach. Raise your Career section to a prominent location on your website and make it fun and easy to navigate!

For example, EDAWN recently met several talented students studying to be Industrial Machinery Mechanics, Machinists, HVAC+ R, Manufacturing Operators/Technicians, Welders, Inspectors, and CNC Operators on a recent talent recruitment visit.

Education Alliance of Washoe County hosts the Feb. 7, evening wine and cheese mixer and Feb. 8 half day Principal for a Day February 2018 event.

TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience,

and where attendees can listen to speakers, via video or in-person presentations, covering a wide variety of topics, intended to spark thought, discussion, and action. TEDxUniversityofNevada is January 27, 2018 at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center. Seating is limited, and tickets are available for purchase at Tedxuniversityofnevada.org. Seating is limited, General Admission is $100, and a group sale discount is available for groups of eight or more, reducing the ticket price to $90.
