EDAWN Highlights Positron AI’s $230 Million Series B as Milestone for Northern Nevada’s Entrepreneurial Economy
Reno, Nev. – The Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN) highlighted a significant milestone for Northern Nevada’s economy following the announcement that Positron AI, a Reno-based artificial intelligence infrastructure company, has raised $230 million in Series B financing at a post-money valuation exceeding $1 billion.
The oversubscribed round was co-led by Arena Private Wealth, Jump Trading, and Unless Ventures, with participation from global strategic investors including Qatar Investment Authority, Arm, Supermicro, and Helena, as well as existing investors such as Flume Ventures, a Nevada-based venture capital firm. The funding will support Positron’s continued growth in Northern Nevada as the company scales energy-efficient AI inference systems and advances next-generation custom silicon.
“Positron’s growth reflects what is possible when founders are supported by an ecosystem designed to help companies move from early traction to scale,” said Taylor Adams, President and CEO of EDAWN. “Northern Nevada has focused on aligning policy, partners, and infrastructure to reduce friction for growing companies. This milestone shows the value of that long-term, coordinated approach.”
“Scaling Positron has always been about execution in the real world, not just strong ideas,” said Mitesh Agrawal, CEO of Positron AI. “Northern Nevada gave us the environment to do that. The partner network the hands-on support from organizations like EDAWN made it easier to focus on building and deploying our systems as demand accelerated. That kind of coordinated ecosystem support matters when you are moving quickly.”
Building systems that support entrepreneurship:
Nevada has taken deliberate steps to treat entrepreneurship as a core economic development strategy, recognizing that founder resources and support systems matter. In 2023, Nevada became the first state in the nation to recognize entrepreneurship as a public good and establish dedicated statewide support to reduce barriers and expand access for founders through Right to Start.
That foundation positioned Nevada to lead as America the Entrepreneurial launched as a national effort to re-center entrepreneurship as an everyday pathway to economic mobility. EDAWN is a founding partner of the campaign, working to translate national momentum into local action across Northern Nevada.
“America the Entrepreneurial is about turning belief into infrastructure and making entrepreneurship feel possible,” Adams said. “Positron is an example of what can happen when founders have access to the right support at the right time, and when communities commit to building systems that help companies grow.”
Supporting growth in Northern Nevada:
Positron builds purpose-built computing systems designed to make AI inference more affordable and energy-efficient at scale. Its shipping system, Atlas, is already deployed with customers, while its next-generation silicon platform is targeting production in 2027. The company’s growth reflects increasing global demand for advanced AI infrastructure that can operate within real-world power and cost constraints.
According to Doug Erwin, Senior Vice President of Entrepreneurial Development at EDAWN, Positron’s trajectory reflects the importance of sustained, place-based support.
“Our role is to help founders navigate growth by making connections, solving problems, and reducing barriers along the way,” Erwin said. “Positron is a strong example of a company that found the talent, partners, and support it needed here in Northern Nevada and was able to scale while staying rooted in the region.”
EDAWN works alongside entrepreneurs and growth-stage companies to align resources, connect partners, and support long-term expansion that strengthens both individual businesses and the regional economy.
