In January, the team visited 7 existing companies, assisted 3 of the 7, and made two business to business connections.
They also assisted a local company with an expansion, adding 10 positions and investing over $2.5M in new capital. The team participated in a visit from business representatives from Turkish owned companies to explore opportunities for collaboration with companies located in the region.
The team also met with Heather Maye, Customized Training Manager at TMCC, for a review of the services they provide to help upskill existing employees.

Workforce Development Updates
The Workforce Program Manager was engaged in numerous activities to connect employers with workforce and resources, and support other efforts such as the CTE and JAG State Teacher Professional Development and WCSD Family Access Day.
She also contributed to an article in the BizNevada magazine about what Northern Nevada growth means to area businesses from a workforce perspective. Additionally, she helped evaluate STEM Challenge Grant Proposals. As a reminder, STEM Workforce Challenge Grants are intended to stimulate the creation of lasting partnerships between industry and workforce training providers. The team worked in conjunction with the RSCVA to launch a billboard in the Bay Area to promote the region as a place to visit and a place for a great career.
This billboard will be up through February 24th along a busy stretch of freeway on Interstate 80.
Nancy McCormick also visited Sacramento State University and Sierra College in Rocklin to identify programs that align with Northern Nevada Employers’ needs,
and to establish relationships with multiple departments willing to work with us to publicize and promote opportunities in our region to their students and graduates.

Sierra Nevada Job Corps helps young people succeed by providing no-cost education and technical career training as part of a U.S. Department of Labor nationwide program. Located in Stead, they have students completing basic academic training, receiving soft skills coaching and technical training in a variety of industry sectors spanning hospitality to maintenance and manufacturing.
