Reno-Sparks Makes the top 20 Hipster Havens List Again:

Some cities like Portland, Oregon, are known for being hipster havens, but increasingly, more under-the-radar places are becoming hotspots for millennials.  MoveHub created a US Hipster Index that ranked cities based on a variety of factors that make them appealing to young people. This is important as we work to attract talent to the region! Here is the full article.

How ‘Not in My Backyard’ Became ‘Not in My Neighborhood’

ANY Times piece that provides us some insights on challenges we may face as we address our housing crunch. “In Seattle, the neighbors don’t want apartments for formerly homeless seniors nearby. In Los Angeles, they don’t want more high-rises. In San Jose, Calif., they don’t want tiny homes.  Homeowners in each of these places share a common conviction: that owning a parcel of land gives them a right to shape the world beyond its boundaries.”  Here is the article.

The EPIC Report with actual numbers updated.

Now approaching three years into the five-year projections of over 52,400 new jobs, we are ahead of projections as Tesla, Panasonic and Switch continue to ramp up their hiring efforts.  Here are the Actual numbers graphs.

Housing remains a concern, but we are making progress:

The chart below shows the number of permits for new housing units (including apartments and condos) pulled so far this year, compared to last year and compared to the goal of 6,000 per year  Note that 12 years ago, in 2005, we were over 6,700 permits.  The 6,000 units a year goal just meets the projected demand for housing, so anything short of that just adds to the current housing shortage.

Here is the latest RGJ article: Let’s Carry Our Holiday Spirit into the New Year!

During the holidays, we all seem to be in a better mood.  We often feel more generous and are willing to give to help those less fortunate. However, once the holidays pass, we forget about the growing needs in our community.  It may be time to consider how we can become a more compassionate and giving community year round, a community that is known for its positive vibe.  Here are a few things to consider adding to your New Year’s Resolutions list in 2018.  Here is the full Article.

Help!!  Taxi-Tops are still available!

We need your help to clean up our taxi-tops so please consider adding taxi-top advertising to your marketing plan now and in the years ahead. We have 25 taxi-tops available and if we cannot keep the taxi-tops filled with family-friendly messages, they will revert to those that are less reflective of the “new” Reno-Sparks. Just $1,000 for the entire year! Contact Tamera Pitts at 775.829.3700 or email pitts@edawn.org.

Business Development

The Business Development team added 16 new leads and projects to a growing pipeline.

Stay tuned for a new company announced in January.

Client visits remained surprisingly active during the holiday period with 11 site visits in the month of December (average site visits for past six months is 12.3)

Chris Ault attended the Economix Conference in New Orleans and had a very full schedule meeting with 28 site selectors.

These consultants often represent larger-sized clients and will continue to be a valuable asset to EDAWN in the future.
