Note – The EPIC Jobs Chart from last month has been adjusted.

“We changed some of the multipliers so that they are based on more recent data and updated job growth vs population growth in Storey County.”  Now over two years into the five year EPIC report projections of over 52,400 new jobs, we are still on track to exceed our estimates, as Tesla, Panasonic and Switch start to ramp up their hiring efforts. Here are the Actual Numbers Graphs.

Business Retention | Expansion

The BREWD team visited 9 companies in April and is on track to visit 150 companies by the end of June.

Availability of workforce continues to be a hot topic on our visits. We strongly encourage employers to familiarize themselves with the Employer Workforce Resource Guide, which can be found on our website here. Hard copies are also available. Thank you to our Presidential Gold Investors, The Applied Companies and Intellisource for their support of this publication.

EDAWN and the Washoe County School District will be distributing over 900 “My Future Activity Books” in both English and Spanish to third and fourth graders.

The Activity Book is designed to be used as a fun guide to stimulate ideas and questions about different industries and occupations, and the education and skills needed to succeed in those careers. To request a copy, email Cynthia Egan or call 775.829.3712.

How can you best promote your company to potential employees?

Per the Gallup Inc. State of the American Workplace report, “Brand ambassadors are the most effective recruiters. Organizations need to invest in their recruiting materials, but to really energize their employer brand, they must inspire workers to become brand ambassadors.” “Referrals from current employees of an organization” and “Suggestions from family members or friends” ranked in the top 3 answers from respondents to a survey asking to what extent different resources were used to learn about job opportunities. To request the full report (195 pages), go here.

We are all recruiters!

If you know someone from outside the area who is interested in job or career opportunities in the region, make sure they check out this  Tips for Seekers sheet, which includes links to EDAWN’s primary company list. The new WhyReno.org website, pulls together all types of information about the many facets and assets of Northern Nevada, and also provides a snapshot and links to who’s hiring in the area.

Biggest Little Recruiting Tips:

Mechanical Engineers are in demand in Northern Nevada.

With median weekly earnings of $1,560, the typical mechanical engineer is paid $81,120 a year — nearly double the $43,264 national figure. Did you know that while most mechanical engineering positions require a bachelor’s degree, educational attainment among full-time workers in the profession is not as high as in other high-paying positions. Just 24.3% of mechanical engineers have either a master’s or doctoral degree, nearly the smallest share of any occupation where median earnings are at least $80,000 a year.

Room for Improvement.

Just over half (52 %) of global workers feel their current, or most recent, employer’s (physical and virtual) workplace promotes collaboration and inclusion. Given the strong business case for a collaborative work environment, there is room for improvement.
