Companies found to have unique products, significant company expansion, corporate citizenship, environmental awareness and commitment to thinking local were honored by the business community and government officials at the second annual Greater Reno-Sparks-Tahoe "Existing Industry Awards" reception hosted by the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN), with Title Sponsors Dermody Properties and United Construction.

$3.2 million grant to bolster TMCC manufacturing, mining programs
The U.S. Department of Labor announced Wednesday it has awarded Truckee Meadows Community College a $3.2 million grant to support academic programs that will train skilled workers for jobs in manufacturing and mining. “This is a wonderful shot in the arm,” Maria Sheehan, president of TMCC, said. “What we have been most fearful about is losing the capabilities to support our technology programs.”
The Labor Department awarded a total of nearly $8.8 million to TMCC, Western Nevada Community College in Carson City and Great Basin College in Elko to expand academic programs to fill jobs in industries where the demand for workers is high. Western Nevada was awarded $1.5 million. The largest of the three grants was $4 million given to Great Basin College.

Local business leaders attended a Press Conference this morning to launch the "Taxi-Top" initiative, as the first part of a much broader business marketing approach. The EDAWN Foundation, a non-profit arm of the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN), has worked with business owners and community leaders to replace 66 existing advertising spaces with Whittlesea Checker Taxi, Inc.

Company Announces New Headquarters, 25 jobs in Greater Reno-Sparks-Tahoe: Lincoln Cutting Systems
Reno, Nev. (September 12, 2013) - Lincoln Electric Cutting Systems has established corporate headquarters operations in Reno, Nev. The company will manage all corporate functions from its new location with plans to create 25 jobs through the relocation and expansion of Vernon Tools.
Local business leaders welcomed company Vice President of Operations, Jeff Bennett, at the Peppermill Resort Spa Casino during a sustainability luncheon for the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN).

Myers Industries and EDAWN Announce 150 Jobs in Sparks, Nev.
RENO, Nev. (August 26th, 2013) – Myers Industries and the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN) announced the opening of a new manufacturing facility in Sparks, Nev. at a press conference today at the John Ascuaga’s Nugget. The move will bring approximately 150 jobs to Reno throughout the next five years, including 90 jobs within the first six months.

Ardagh Metal Packaging Announces 140 Jobs in Reno, Nev.
RENO, Nev. (August 22nd, 2013) - Ardagh Metal Packaging USA Inc. and the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN) announced the opening of a new manufacturing plant located in Storey County at a press conference today at the Atlantis Casino Resort & Spa. The move will bring approximately 140 technical jobs to northern Nevada throughout the next five years, including 72 jobs within the first six months.

Randa Accessories Adds 120 New Jobs in Nevada
Randa Accessories announced today a $25 million investment in their logistics system, along with other enhancements and changes in infrastructure.
Randa Accessories, the world's largest men's accessories company, has grown from $100 million in revenue in 2000 to over $600 million in 2012, with continued growth planned. Randa is investing in additional personnel, training, equipment, ERP systems, sustainable resource management, and physical space to support its North American Logistics network.

EDAWN Exceeds New Jobs Goal of 2,000 for the Reno-Sparks Region
Reno, Nev., (July 11, 2013) – Greater Reno-Sparks-Tahoe saw a significant increase in the number of jobs created in the region over the past 12 months compared to previous years. According to the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN) from July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2013, the organization and its partners assisted 33 companies relocate or expand in the region, creating a projected 2,124 jobs, within five years, with an average annual salary exceeding $39,000. This is a 28% increase in assisted jobs announced last year and more than double the assisted jobs average for the past 5 years.
