Business Retention, Expansion & Workforce Update – October 2017
Business Retention | Expansion | Workforce
The Business Retention and Expansion team made 7 company visits in September..
and provided assistance to 2 companies.
In September, we also launched two taxi tops promoting Nevada JobConnect, to help publicize the fact that JobConnect is the place to go for those seeking employment,
in addition to businesses seeking employees. You too can advertise your job openings or your business on local taxis. This is a unique opportunity to get the word out about your company, product or service, and the cost is just $1,000 per year. Your message will be seen by visitors and locals alike throughout the community! For more information, contact Tamera Pitts at 775-829-3701!
October is National Manufacturing Month and Northern Nevada is becoming the Advanced Manufacturing Hub of the West!
Over 800 job postings in Manufacturing exist in the greater Reno-Sparks region, and more are coming our way! Training programs also continue to grow at the Community Colleges and the University to prepare students for these positions or help existing employees increase their skills. This sector is one with many opportunities which we expect to continue to grow in the coming years.
Congratulations to Garlock Printing and Converting which just expanded their footprint
in Reno by adding to their existing facility in the North West.
They celebrated the opening by planting a tree, in lieu of the usual ribbon cutting.
Nominations are closed for our Existing Industry Awards and we are looking forward to announcing the winners at the October 24th event!
Thank you to all who nominated themselves or another primary company for consideration! Special thanks to our Title Sponsor for this event, Server Technology.
Have you thought about hiring interns, but weren’t sure where to go?
The good news is there are resources at the University, Community Colleges and the Washoe County School District that can assist. Check them out on page 7 of the Employer Workforce Resource Guide! While you are there, post a position or two on the TMCC or UNR job board, and review all the other community resources that can assist with workforce development.
Do you have open jobs you are trying to fill?
Just a reminder to post those jobs with Nevada JobConnect, the statewide network that connects business with employees. Contact your localJobConnect office now!
Are you a primary company that has never been visited by EDAWN, or hasn’t been visited in the last year?
If so, please reach out to Cynthia Egan or call 775.829.3712 to schedule an appointment soon.
