Business Retention | Expansion | Workforce

The Business Retention, Expansion and Workforce Development team visited 13 companies in July and provided a variety of assistance to many of them.

8 of the 13 are adding new positions in the coming year.  We are always looking for opportunities to make business to business connections and made 5 connections in July, in addition to making a total of 12 business and education connections.

As we start our new fiscal year, the priorities for the BRE&WD team…

are to retain and support existing primary companies and help facilitate expansions, encourage participation in Internship and Apprenticeship programs, drive utilization of existing workforce resources, be a conduit between education and business and promote alignment, drive awareness of Reno/Sparks as a place for a career, and attract Skilled Talent and Professionals from outside the region to add to the workforce in the region.

The team has updated the Employer Workforce Resource Guide with new contacts and new listings, so please check it out on the EDAWN website.

The Guide is designed to help employers identify places to post open positions, collaborate with workforce development providers in the community, and connect with education entities and other useful resources.

Are you a primary company that has never been visited by EDAWN, or hasn’t been visited in the last year?

If so, please reach out to Cynthia Egan or call 775.829.3712 to schedule an appointment soon.

Biggest Little Employment Tip:

Nevada Apprenticeship Project plans to add 50 new occupation apprenticeships to the State Registered Apprenticeship program. Apprenticeship means that the students are working and studying as an employee of a company. The benefits to a company include easier access to talent, higher retention, and increased employee loyalty, in addition to skill development via both academic education, and on the job experience. Help employees develop their potential via an apprenticeship program! It is a win for them, a win for you, and a win for the community!

Keep your eye out for the WhyReno.org Taxi tops to encourage visitors to our vibrant community to consider a career here!
