Business Retention | Expansion | Workforce Development
The Business Retention, Expansion and Workforce Development team visited over 140 new and existing primary companies over the past 12 months, and assisted 94 companies in a variety of ways including making introductions to resources, helping facilitate connections with education, taking business concerns forward to the appropriate entities, and assisting with expansions. They also worked closely with the Washoe County School District Career and Technical Education Program and others, to support the alignment of education with the “New Nevada” workforce needs.
The team launched and improved multiple tools to assist new and existing companies.These include the Employer Workforce Resource Guide, which provides a straightforward reference guide to help employers navigate the numerous workforce resources that exist in the area. The team also launched WhyReno.org, a one-stop location that makes it easy for recruiters and others to access to a wide variety of information about our community. The Business Toolkit continues to improve and expande and includes information about Background Checks, Transportation Programs, Tips from Experts, Foreign Trade Zones and other important topics. The team also partnered with the Washoe County School District to create and distribute the My Future Activity Book for children, to help students and their parents learn more about careers in Northern Nevada’s key sectors.
Workforce:Workforce efforts of the team included many components geared toward connection between seekers and resources, increased connections between service and training providers, encouraging education and business connections, support for internship and apprenticeship programs, and attraction of talent to the region.Nine attraction activities were implemented over the past 12 months to encourage those outside the state to consider Northern Nevada as a place for a career.

Nevada’s Apprenticeship Project is for smarter employers and better employees.Nevada is experiencing significant growth, and many of these jobs will require a highly-skilled, trained and ready workforce. Whether you’re an employer interested in getting positions filled now through a registered apprenticeship program or you’re a job seeker ready to earn and learn, the local community colleges are the right place to start.
