How did EDAWN do in our fiscal year 2017?

The EDAWN Board tracks our progress using a dashboard that details metrics in a few main areas, job attraction, job retention, entrepreneurial job creation and workforce development. This dashboard is aligned with our strategic plan and our funding. The EDAWN team had another great year exceeding our metrics in nearly every area. The jobs goal is what most people pay attention to and the total assisted job total was our highest ever at 3,323, exceeding the goal of 3,200. Additionally, we track more than 30 other metrics. To see where our efforts were focused, view the FY 2017 dashboard here.

Did you miss the press conference?

On September 18th, Governor Sandoval joined the City of Reno in announcing the expansion of Alchemy, a new technology company, from the Bay Area.  In addition to the 160 high paying jobs, they will move their corporate headquarters to Reno. This announcement demonstrates the ability of our region to attract more technology companies and EDAWN has an increasing focus on growing our technology sector in the years ahead. Here is the Press Release.

Do you want to have a say in our regional planning?

Take the planning survey. The Truckee Meadows Regional Planning Agency (TMRPA) is working on updating the plan that provides the framework for growth in our region for the next 20 years.  It directs where growth will occur, identifies development constrained areas that are not suitable for future development, sets priorities for infrastructure development and addresses natural resource management.  The regional plan update gives us a chance to envision and shape the future of the region. Click Here for Survey

The EPIC Report with actual numbers updated.

Now approaching three years into the five-year projections of over 52,400 new jobs, we are almost 10,000 jobs ahead of projections as Tesla, Panasonic and Switch continue to ramp up their hiring efforts.  In case you missed it, here are the Actual numbers graphs.

Housing continues to be a concern, but it looks like we are making progress:

The chart below shows the number of permits for new housings units (including apartments and condos) pulled so far this year, compared to last year and compared to what is a goal of 6,000 per year, the number we were at before the recession.  Permits pulled is the only way to track the progress on a monthly basis.  At, 6,000 units a year, we will be meeting the expected demand for housing based on current and projected job growth. We have not had more than 4,000 housing starts since 2006!

Here is the latest RGJ article: Arts and Culture Key to Our Economic Growth –

There are many factors that influence a company, or an individual, to select one community over another, but when it comes to attracting higher wage jobs and creative talent, the strength of arts and culture in a community is more important than ever.  As we continue to add quality jobs to the region, especially those that require innovation and creativity, our support for and investment in arts and culture has become an imperative. Here is the full article.
