Another great addition to our community.
Elemental LED, an engineering and technology-based manufacturer of LED lighting solutions, is relocating its U.S. Headquarters, manufacturing and R&D operations to Reno, Nevada. The company expects to be operational this year by the end of the third quarter. Elemental LED plans to hire up to 100 employees over the next two years and has an average wage of more than $40 an hour. Here is the Press release.
A great addition to our educational offerings in the region.
Udacity, a leading online education company, announced a new local program in Reno known as Udacity Connect. They will offer both on-line and in-person courses to teach Reno-Tahoe residents to become full stack web developers — a high-demand job in the region. This program is the first of it’s kind and has launched in the Reno community, with plans to expand other course offerings in Robotics, Machine Learning, and Self Driving Car Engineering. Check out these 11 up-and-coming satellite cities where the job markets are hot but the cost of living won’t eat all of your paycheck. All of these cities’ job markets have been growing faster than the national average, most have lower jobless rates than the national average, and all are expected to continue to outperform economically this year. Connecting business and education to prepare the workforce in Washoe County
Workforce development is one of the big challenges that northern Nevada employers face in this growing economy. The Sierra Sun recently wrote about the Washoe K-12 Education Foundation luncheon to highlight what the Washoe County School District is doing to prepare students to meet local employers’ workforce needs. The event was designed to connect the business community and education community. Businesses were also provided ways to get more involved with K-12 workforce development. Here is the article.

Population Health to Accelerate Our Economic Diversification
A Renown-DRI team from Reno-Sparks have been asked to speak at the BIO International Convention to be held in San Diego on a pioneering approach to population health and data-driven health science solutions. Here is the RGJ Article.

The Business Development team had a very busy month assisting five companies to relocate to the Greater Reno-Sparks area in May.
600 new jobs were added to the region. Average wages ranged from $20.27/hr. to $42.84/hr.

24 new leads and projects were added to the pipeline in the month of May.
